                                         President’s Mission Statement/Vision

May I begin by thanking Immediate Past President, John Ewbank, for his stewardship of our Club through a highly successful year, which has without doubt raised the profile of our Club in the locality. His remarkable record as a volunteer is being maintained by his Chairmanship of the Service Committee.

I am very fortunate to take on the role of President of an organisation, which is undoubtedly in very robust health and in great shape to go forward.

The ideals nurtured by our Charter President, Peter Shannon, 35 years ago still guide us today and the current Lions and their partners take pride in a club which provides the opportunity to voluntarily give time and effort for the improvement of the lot of those less fortunate and provide a programme of events which add to the enjoyment of the whole neighbourhood.

My hopes for the coming year are that we may strengthen the ties with other community associations, enhance our Friends group and so encourage new members to join us. And that we may continue “To have the courage to change” as our Club’s Grace calls upon us.

To achieve these aims I am hugely grateful that the exceptionally talented trio of Dave Walker, Roy Crossland and Ken Humphreys are remaining in office.

But we are constantly aware that the vital element in our good fortune is the community’s generous support for our activities. The new Fundraising Committee, under the Chairmanship of David Shinn, already have a varied programme of events in hand.

So may I thank everyone in anticipation for their Lion- hearted contribution to another great year?

Rottingdean & Saltdean Lions President 2008/9 Graham Stapley
